Sunday Summary 4.5.20

Summary:

Another week of being quarantined. This past week I went to Costco. When you have been in self isolation for this long, a Costco trip becomes the big news of the week. I am sure you understand. It was surreal. We had to wait in a long line outside of the store to get a cart in an effort to keep the amount of people in the store to a minimum. As I stood in line, I kept repeating to myself “This is the new reality. This is how it is going to be for a long time.” in an attempt to fully process and accept the current situation. This led to me noticing a ton of positives.

Everything I wanted/needed was in stock! (minus TP of course) Andddd with hardly anyone being in the store, it was a breeze to get the shopping done! There was no bumping into huge carts, or avoiding the crowds that typically gathered by the samples. Every employee I saw was continuously wiping down things that are often touched by people. Despite all the positives, it was still eerie and uncomfortable.

Of course there were no samples and no smiling faces. The air was filled with fear and avoidance. Every so often I came across someone who sensed it as much as I did and we would smile at each other to break the thickness. During this time I encourage you to smile at as many strangers as you can. The human connection is so important right now, even from a distance.

Since I am self isolating, that is the extent of my weekly adventures. Just focused on accepting, navigating, and learning to thrive in this new world.

What I was reminded of/what I learned this week:

It’s always best to sit with your emotions and truly feel them. Why? Because that’s what you need to do in order to truly let them go.  We all work so hard to avoid “bad” emotions that we never stop to realize that by pushing them down, we are simply preserving them. This week I was reminded to feel my emotions to the deepest of my ability instead of avoiding them. By feeling your emotions, you are releasing them and freeing space within for better emotions. Trust me.

Reading Recommendation:

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself By: Michael Singer This is by far one of my all time favorite books. Everyone should read it. If you are ready, you will realize how powerful this book can be.

What I am listening to:

Happy Folk Spotify Playlist – It just has a lot of great happy, upbeat, chill songs! I have been jamming to upbeat music whenever I can. I have found that it’s best to not let your mind race into darkness during this time. So I choose to listen to upbeat music, an audio book, or a podcast during the times when my mind would typically be racing! Keep the party going! Give it a try!

What I am loving this week:

Sauerkraut- Random, I know, but I have just been craving it lately! I actually just looked up the health benefits of sauerkraut, and learn some new fun facts about it! Check it out by clicking here. This article also explains how to make it on your own!

I do believe I will be adding more sauerkraut into my diet. =]

Quote of the Week:

“The chief task in life is simply this: To identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I can control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own…” Epictetus
