Sunday Summary 3.29.20

Summary:

Since this is the first “Sunday Summary” post, I will explain.

I think continuously reflecting on life is great for many reasons. I also believe in personal growth and optimizing longevity. These weekly reflections are my reflections on everything that has happened this week, and my mindset surrounding it. I will share things I am doing, along with information on why it is helping me. I will also recommend books to read, podcasts, or even songs. It’s pretty much a weekly summary of everything I want to share with the world! I hope you enjoy it! =]

It has been another week of staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since I have Lupus, I have been self quarantining myself for 2 weeks now. I’m not on immunosuppressants, but my body simply doesn’t handle viruses well anyways. It’s a scary/crazy time for sure. I have been focused on taking it one day at a time, while staying aware of what the future may hold. The key is to not get too wrapped up in the scary “what ifs”. You want to find a balance between staying present and planning for the future. I have found that checking the news twice a day has been enough to keep me in the loop without increasing my anxiety. If your news is starting to cover personal stories about the negative impact COVID-19 has had on people so far, then turn it off. There is literally NO point in listening to these things right now. Your time is much better spent connecting with friends and family online and focusing on the positives.

So what have I been up to while living the #houselife?

Well, I actually planned on isolating myself a bit during this time even BEFORE the pandemic hit, so I am not doing too bad. If anything, it’s a bit more convenient to have a home gym using equipment that I loaned from a gym nearby. Before the pandemic, I had made a realization that I no longer had a CLEAR vision for where I wanted my life to go. I had a general idea, but since I spent the past 2 years traveling around and having a blast, I never sat still enough to recenter and redirect my life in the direction I wanted it to go. I also realized that it was very hard for me to focus on clarifying this while living van life. SO I decided I would live at my moms for a couple months to spend time reflecting on my life and the new direction I wanted it go. My pup, Selene, also had a couple more leg procedures she needed to get done in the area so staying put for a while made sense. I had been here a week when the pandemic hit. So needless to say, I was completely ready to buckle down and get to work, and this is exactly what I have been doing.

What I was reminded of/what I learned this week:

Anxiety is only present when you are CHOOSING to live in the past or future. If you redirect your mind to focus on whatever is happening right NOW, the anxiety will fade away. During this crazy time, the best thing you can do is focus on what is happening right NOW. Don’t focus on what could happen in the future or what has happened to other countries in the past. Focus on what is happening right here, right now.

Reading Recommendation: Eckhart Tolle- A New Earth

Clearly, I believe in staying present during difficult times and this book helps in explaining how to do just that. This book is one of my absolute favorites. If you listen on audible, Eckhart Tolle is the one that narrates it and his voice adds an extra calming effect. =]

What I am listening to: “Life’s What You Make It” by Graham Colton

It’s a great song with a great lesson to keep in mind during this time.

What I am loving this week: Cold Showers.

Yep, you read that right. No, I don’t enjoy the cold. I do it for the mental and physical benefits.

I always wash and rinse myself with warm water. I don’t introduce the cold until the end, but when I do, I keep it going for 3 minutes straight.

Why? Cold showers have multiple health benefits from increasing alertness and mood, decreasing inflammation, and strengthening the immune system to improving weightloss and willpower. I am in the process of writing a blog on this so stay tuned!

Quote of the Week:

“Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they elieve that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.” – Eckhart Tolle

I hope everyone is staying home, staying healthy, and staying safe!

Until next time!

-Meg
